Day 1: Begin in Venice
From the moment you arrive in Venice, you’ll begin ticking items off the bucket list – the first being a water taxi down the Grand Canal to your hotel. Tick!
The rest of the day will be spent learning about this beautiful city. In the afternoon, you’ll sail past the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, the public gardens and the tip of Sant’Elena to arrive at the island of Murano, renowned throughout the world for its glass-blowing industry.
In one of Murano’s many factories, you’ll observe a glass-blowing workshop before hopping back on your boat in the direction of the picturesque island of Burano. While Burano’s lace industry is almost as thriving as Murano’s glass; the island is much more famous for its fisherman’s houses which are brightly painted with colours of the rainbow.
Your final stop of the afternoon will be Torcello to admire the magnificent mosaics in its cathedral. You’ll return to Venice in the evening with a wonderful insight into the Venetian lagoon.
Day 2: Venice City Tour & Gondola Ride
A city with such immense beauty, you could easily spend your entire 2 weeks in Venice, Italy. Built over 100 islands, Venice is a magical network of canals complimented by the pastel-coloured, historical buildings that line up alongside them disappearing into the water.
On the second day of this itinerary, you’ll take in the beauty of Venice on a walking tour of the city. You’ll visit the most iconic sights with a local guide beginning in the religious and cultural centre of the city, Piazza San Marco. From here, you’ll be led on an anecdotal journey of history to the Doge’s Palace, St. Mark’s Basilica, St. Mark’s Bell Tower and the Clock Tower.
Throughout the tour, your local guide will recount the tales of centuries past as you move through Venice’s different neighbourhoods including Santa Maria Formosa and the Mercerie, the vital lifeline between Rialto and San Marco, and the city’s central shopping district.
Day 3: Continue Your 2 Weeks in Florence, Italy
The Cradle of Renaissance calls today as you hop on a high-speed train from Venice to Florence. Once again, you’ll be met at the other end by your driver and guide who will escort you to your hotel and help with any formalities.
After settling in, it will be time to explore one of the world’s most famous art galleries, the Uffizi Gallery, with a Local Designer guide. Constructed between 1560 and 1580, the Uffizi Gallery is home to a masterful collection of ancient sculptures and paintings that date from the Middle Ages to the modern-day.
As you wander around the gallery, you will admire the likes of Giotto, Botticelli, Leonardo, Raffaello, Michelangelo and Caravaggio, kicking off the next few days in the ‘Tuscan City of Art’ nicely.
Day 4: Discover Florence
If you were to ask an Italian how to spend 2 weeks in Italy, one of the must-visit places they would suggest -whether you have been to Italy before or not- would be Florence.
On this day, you’ll be taken on a journey through the magnificent treasures of Florence by an expert local guide. Beginning your tour in true Florentine style, you’ll head to the top of the 19th-century Piazzale Michelangelo for a breathtaking view of the red-roofed historic centre below.
The day will continue with more astonishing sights as you stroll through the streets with a thousand stories to tell. From Piazza della Signoria and Palazzo Vecchio, you’ll visit the famous Florence Duomo, where you will learn the secrets of Giotto’s Bell Tower and uncover the beauty of the Baptistery with its golden, bronze doors. Brunelleschi’s Dome, the famed Ponte Vecchio and the secret Vasari Corridor will be the cherries on the cake of your day!

Your trip including the Amalfi Coast creates the ideal travel itinerary to make sure you see all the beauty that the country has to offer. Leaving Siena behind, you’ll hop on a train to Naples to meet a driver who will take you to Sorrento, the gateway to the Amalfi Coast.

Buried under 30-feet of ash following the colossal eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, the Roman city of Pompeii lay undiscovered for 1,500 years. You’ll spend the day with a local guide exploring one of the world’s most important archaeological finds on the Sorrentine Peninsula.

Amalfi was the seat of a powerful maritime republic between the 9th and 11th centuries which has left behind a wealth of historic buildings including its imposing cathedral which dominates the town.
The ancient stone streets and stunning cliff top gardens of Ravello form your next stop. Known for its historic and artistic charm, Ravello is where you can discover the rare architecture of the 13th-century Villa Rufolo, whose beautiful gardens overlook the dramatic cliffs and sea below.

2 Weeks in Italy by Train, Plane, Car & More
If this is your first time planning the best Italy itinerary for 2 weeks, how you choose to travel around Italy will determine many factors of your trip including the cost, your enjoyment, and the time spent in each place you want to visit.
Travelling around Italy for 2 weeks can be done a number of different ways;
Italy Train Pass for 2 Weeks
Travelling around Italy for 2 weeks by train is the most comfortable, convenient and straightforward way. Italy is laced by efficient high-speed trains which can zip you from major city to major city in less than a few hours. It is recommended that you book your high-speed train tickets in advance as these can book up fast – if you need help with this, our Local Designers in Italy are on hand to help you plan your trip.
If you are travelling by regional trains, you won’t have to book these in advance as the prices don’t fluctuate and the seats don’t book up too much.
Italy by Car
If you don’t want to travel Italy by train, then the next best thing is by car. Renting a car is a popular option as it allows you to explore at your own pace, stop whenever you like and deviate from your original plan if you see somewhere you’d like to stay.
If you don’t want to drive but the thought of 2 weeks in Italy without a car doesn’t appeal either, then you should consider travelling with a private driver and guide like on this 15-Day Luxury Rome to Venice Trip.
This type of travel would afford you all the luxuries of renting your own car but with the addition of your very own English-speaking local guide so you don’t have the hassle of having to navigate the roads yourself!
Other Ways to Visit Italy in 2 Weeks
It is highly recommended that you travel Italy either by train or car. However, if you are looking for alternative ways, you can move around the country by bus, although the timetables aren’t always the most reliable.
The popular country that it is, there are also airports in every major destination in Italy, so if you would like to fly between destinations, then that is also an option.
2-Week Packing List
Deciding what to pack for 2 weeks is a challenge in itself. Here’s a little checklist guide to help you pack;
- When are you visiting Italy?
Bear in mind that summer months can be scorching and humid and winter months can be cold and wet. If you’re heading to Italy in spring or autumn, it’s best to pack layers so that you are prepared for all weather eventualities.
- What luggage are you taking?
If you can do your 14 day trip with a carry-on, then it is highly recommended. With a small amount of luggage, you’ll be able to hop on and off trains, buses and planes very quickly.
- What activities will you be doing?
How many outfits to pack for 2 weeks largely depends on what you will be doing during your trip. If you plan to spend one week in the north, hiking, kayaking and cycling, then the other week dining in delightful restaurants in Venice and spending your days wine tasting in Tuscany, then you’ll want outfits to suit all of these activities.
- Have you got the essentials?
Ultimately, everything else can be bought on the road, so all you need to make sure you have is cash, credit cards, passports, tickets and a fantastic travel itinerary. Don’t forget your camera too, to capture all the memories!
It is also highly recommended that you buy travel insurance alongside your trip for any mishaps that may occur.
What Does a 2-Week Trip to Italy Cost?
Another rather tricky question to answer simply, how much an entire 2 weeks will cost is mostly down to the following factors;
- Class and type of accommodation you choose
- Whether you travel Italy by train, car, plane or bus
- How many and what kind of activities you do (private or join-in tours)
- Where you decide to go to in Italy
It is possible to spend 2 weeks in Italy on a budget by adapting the above to create a trip that ticks all the boxes and comes in at a reasonable price.
