Trip Overview

Annapurna Panorama commonly known as Poonhill Trek is the best short trek in Nepal.

The trail runs through the lower part of the Annapurna region, through the pine, juniper and rhododendron forests. Trek to Ghorepani and Poonhill, visit the ethnic communities, learn about their culture and buy local handicrafts to support the local economy. Poonhill offers mesmerising sunset and sunrise views over the Himalayan peaks.

After your trek, you'll spend some days in Kathmandu to soak up all the history and culture of Nepal's capital city, you'll also have time to visit the ancient sites of Bhaktupur!

When you arrive in Nepal, you will be collected from the airport and taken to your hotel in Kathmandu city centre. You'll have the rest of the day to explore, see the sights and meet your guide for your tour briefing. That night, enjoy a welcome dinner with your hosts.

Visit two of the World Heritage sites in Kathmandu. Pashupatinath houses a sacred lingam or the phallic symbol of Lord Shiva, and the Buddhists shrine of Boudhanath is one of the largest stupas in the world. Kathmandu Durbar Square and Swayambhu meaning the "the self-existent" is popular among travellers as is the Monkey Temple owing to a large number of monkey population residing in the area.

Day 3

Drive to Pokhara

We leave for Pokhara after breakfast. The drive to Pokhara takes around 6-7 hours and is a very scenic one, so sit back and relax. Alternatively, it is possible to do a 30-minute scenic flight at an additional cost. The afternoon is free at leisure for you to explore Pokhara on your own. You can take a leisurely walk around Phewa Lake or even take a boat tour.

Day 4

Drive to Nayapul and start on the trek to Ulleri, traversing Birethanthi and Modi River on suspension bridges, entering into the Annapurna Conservation Area. Today, we will climb about 3,000 steps to reach the lodge at Ulleri where you'll have your first view of the mountains.

Day 5

Resume trekking right after breakfast. Annapurna South and Hiunchuli peaks are visible if the weather is clear. Our trail gradually ascends and traverses dense forests of rhododendron and oak, and the villages of Banthanti and Nangethani. Spend the night in a lodge in upper Ghorepani village, near the ridge where we have beautiful panoramic views of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges.

Day 6

Sunrise at Poon Hill and Trek to Tadapani (5 hours/2,630 metres)

Wake up early and hike by torchlight and warm clothes for about 1.5 hours to Poon Hill (3,210 metres), the best spot to see panoramic views of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges at sunrise. Descend to the lodge for breakfast and resume trekking to Tadapani (2,650 metres), where you can see Annapurna South, Hiunchuli and Machhapuchhre peaks.

From Tadapani the trail drops down through rhododendron and oak forests, arriving at Ghandruk for lunch. Ghandruk is a traditional Gurung village and one of the highest permanent settlements in the valley with a tremendous view across to Annapurna South and Machhapuchhare 6,097 metres. This is an easy-going day so that you have time to rest for a long day tomorrow.

Day 8

Trek to Nayapul and Drive to Pokhara

Today is the last day of our ABC trek. Leaving Jhinu, we first descend, cross the river and continue along the trail that remains almost flat all the way to Birethanti and head to Nayapul. As we get closer to civilisation, you'll see the vegetation becomes lower as the city appears in the distance. Drive back to Pokhara and rest after your adventure - a comfortable bed awaits!

Return to Kathmandu

You can either drive back to Kathmandu by bus or alternatively, take a 30-minute flight at an additional cost. You'll arrive late afternoon and have time to relax, take a walk through the streets of Thamel, and do some shopping. Celebrate your successful journey to Annapurna Sanctuary with a farewell dinner in Kathmandu.

Day 10

Bhaktapur is famous for its varied temples. The most impressive is the five-storey Nyatapola Temple on TaumadhiTole, the tallest temple in Nepal built in 1702 during the reign of King Bhupatindra Malla. Bhaktapur, which became an independent city-state under King Ananda Malla in the 12th century, also has its own Durbar Square replete with a number of temples, including one featuring cows, camels and elephants. You'll have a farewell dinner in the evening.
