Trip Overview

On this 15 day Italy itinerary, explore the best of Italy's fabulous coastal regions, cities and islands. This 15-day trip starts in Rome with a tour of its Baroque monuments, the major Papal Basilicas and Capitoline Hill. If you're feeling adventurous, you can also tour Rome by Vespa along one of the oldest streets as well as visit the Catacombs of St Callixtus and other major monuments.

You'll then catch a train to Naples and visit Rione Terra, one of the most interesting and historically important towns, which has not changed for hundreds of years. In Naples, you'll visit the Vesuvius Observatory and Herculaneum, an ancient city often overshadowed by its more popular counterpart, Pompeii.

Next, you'll fly to Agrigento and visit Pompeii, an important city destroyed and buried by the eruption of Vesuvius August 24th 79 AD, and embark on a walking tour of the Valley of the Temples. On the drive to Taormina, you'll stop at Villa Romana and the Greek theatre, before taking a jeep to Mount Etna, the highest volcano in Europe.

By ferry, you'll travel to Stromboli to learn about the volcano's activities during the day and night. Finally, you'll visit Lipari Island heading out on a tour during which you'll take in the amazing views of cliffs and coves, a swim in the crystal clear sea, visit charming villages and finish with a drink at Marina Corta.

Your 15-day Italy itinerary starts today! After arriving at the airport, you will be transferred to your hotel in the city centre. After checking in, discover Baroque Rome with your guide. Today you will visit the Vesuvius Observatory. Founded in 1841 by King Ferdinand II of Bourbon, the Vesuvius Observatory is the oldest volcanological observatory in the world. Before reaching Amalfi Coast, you will stop in Herculaneum for a guided visit of the excavation. Herculaneum is a wealthier town than Pompeii, possessing an extraordinary density of fine houses and far more lavish use of coloured marble cladding. In the afternoon, you'll arrive in Positano.

Today, you will reach Milazzo where you will travel to Stromboli Island by ferry. Upon arrival at Stromboli Island, the hotel shuttle will take you to the hotel to check in. In the afternoon, you'll visit the INGV Center, a small museum containing information on the activity of the Aeolian and Stromboli volcanos. In the evening, dinner will be served at The Observatory, at the base of the volcano, where are able to see the volcano’s night activity.

This morning, you'll climb to the Sciara del Fuoco to watch the volcanic activity. In the late afternoon, you will take a boat trip around the island of Stromboli to admire the sunset and the volcanic eruption. The first stop is Strombolicchio, made up of lava pebbles. Then to Ficogrande, known for its volcanic pebbles, black beach and the blue of its water. The Stromboli boat trip then continues towards the Sciara del Fuoco, where you can admire the natural spectacle of the erupting volcano.

Today you will head to Stromboli pier where you will travel by ferry boat to Lipari Island. Upon arrival, the hotel shuttle will wait for you to take to the hotel. You will visit the Lipari Archaeological Museum complex, located on the enormous rhyolitic rock of the "Castello" (Castle) of Lipari, an imposing dome of volcanic formation with characteristics of natural defence, where its inhabitants settled during all periods whenever they felt the need for defence.

Embark on a full-day tour of Lipari first visiting Canneto, looking over the sea and islands.
