Take a stroll through the Asakusa district, and discover the historic centre of Japan's capital. Visit the Sensô-Ji Temple which has stood for over 1,000 years, and don't forget to pass by Nakamise Street. Stroll through Akihabara, the capital of otaku, fans of virtual culture. Then go to the Zojo-Ji Temple, one of the largest Buddhist complexes in the capital. Finish the day by climbing the Tokyo Sky Tree Tower and take a closer look at the radio tower that is the pride of the Japanese people.

Visit the famous Hakone Shrine, a Shinto shrine on the shore of Lake Ashi. Erected in 757, the main building in a beautiful cedar forest. Distinguished by its Torii, it is the best-known view of Mount Fuji. Take a stroll around Lake Ashi, a crater lake within a volcano that erupted 3,000 years ago. Take the cable car along Lake Ashi to Owakudani Volcanic Valley to admire its steam vents, hot springs and hot rivers. On clear days, you may see a spectacular panoramic view of Mount Fuji.

Visit the Arakura Fuji Sengen Jinja Shrine at the foot of Mount Arakura. Take a stroll in Arakurayama Park. Located on Mount Arakura, it offers one of the most famous views of Japan. Discover the picturesque village of Oshino Hakkai, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2013 for its unique architecture. Explore the Kitaguchi Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha Shrine. This Shinto shrine is dedicated to the goddess of Mount Fuji, the kami of the calm waters of the mountain.

Visit the famous Yasaka-Jinja Shrine, dedicated to the goddess of the sea and Maruyama Park, an essential place for the Ohanami during Sakura. Visit the Kodai-ji Temple, full of maple and bamboo trees and troll through the Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka alleys that look like they come straight out of a samurai movie. Visit the astonishing Kiyomizu-Dera Temple and walk through Gion District. You'll finish the day at the two of the most important temples in Japan, Higashi Hongen-ji and Nishi Hongen-gi.

Discover the riches of Takao on a gentle and pleasant hike. Leaving Kyoto on a bus, the road quickly starts winding and houses become more scarce. Arriving at the Kozan-ji Temple, you can stop to admire the view from the temple's veranda overlooking the river valley. Your short hike continues along the river lined with maple trees, you'll pass Jingo-ji Temple before you reach waterfalls where you can swim. Your hike will finish at Arashiyama and Tenryu-ji Temple with its beautiful gardens.

Forming a red archway winding through the forest and mountains, more than 30,000 torii take you to Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine, the largest Shinto shrine in Japan. Discover the Philosopher's Path, walking the trail bordered by hundreds of cherry trees joining the Silver Pavilion. Take a stroll along Kiyamachi-Dori street and explore Pontocho District with its countless tea houses, where Geiko come to practice their arts.

Today is free to explore: stroll through the large park in the city of Nara, discover the Kasuga Taisha Shrine with its buildings painted in vermilion red and visit the large Todai-ji Temple, home to the Daibutsu-den building, the largest wooden construction in the world which houses a monumental Big Buddha. Admire the magnificent Nigatsu-Do Temple built on wooden stilts and visit the Hokke-Do Temple also called Sangatsu-do, the oldest building in Todai-ji.

Your Japan package will continue to the Teramachi District that boasts more than 70 temples, including the famous Myoryu Ji. Explore the Kenroku-en Garden covering around 11.4 hectares. Take a walk around Kanazawa Castle and enter its enclosure if you wish. Visit the Oyama Shrine, dedicated to Maeda Toshiie, the first lord of the powerful Maeda Clan, and the old samurai district. Finish the day in Omichi Market and the geisha district.

You'll have the morning free to explore Kanazawa a little more. You can visit some more attractions that suit your interests or re-visit places that we saw yesterday. In the afternoon, you'll take the train to Takayama and check in. Then, explore the historic streets of Takayama, which take you back to the Edo period.

Head to Higashiyama Road, located to the east of the city centre and take a stroll through the peaceful hillside Higashiyama district. Along the Miyagawa River, you will reach the beautiful Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine. Then, enter the House of the Kusakabe family, who were one of the most prosperous merchant families in the city at the start of the Meiji era. Visit the Takayama Matsuri Yatai Kaikan Museum and admire the Takayama Jinya to finish the day.

Enjoy a free day in Shirakawago. Spend a day out of time in the small village of Shirakawa-Go, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its large thatched houses: the Gassho Zukuri. Some Minka can be visited during the day, which will allow you to understand these large living spaces which can bring together up to forty inhabitants.

Spend the morning in Takayama before taking the train to Tokyo. Enjoy a free half-day in Tokyo. Take a stroll around the east side of Shinjuku, a maze of alleys lined with small bars and restaurants, reminiscent of the atmosphere of pre-war Tokyo. This place is best explored in the evening when the streets come alive and the bright neon signs invite you to enter a world of entertainment. Stroll through the lively Ginza District which will delight lovers of shopping and contemporary architecture.
