Trip Overview

Embark on a 15-day Langtang Gosaikunda Trek which takes you along the scenic landscapes of the Langtang Valley to the serene turquoise waters of the Gosaikunda Lake.

The trek commences after a 150-kilometre drive from Kathmandu to Syabru Besi. The trail gradually ascends upstream along the Bhote Koshi river passing through the funky flower clusters and forests of the Langtang Valley to the alpine meadows and yak pastures around Kyangjin.

After a challenging ascent to the Kyangjin Ri at 4,773 metres, you can behold the 360-degree spectacular mountain views. You'll continue trailing towards Thulo Syabru and to the sacred Gosainkunda Lake, perched at an elevation of 4,380 metres.

Throughout this incredible Nepal travel experience, the scenery is spectacular and the locals you meet are intriguing and welcoming.

Today, you'll get ready for your seven-hour exciting drive by a private 4WD jeep to Syabrubesi from Kathmandu. Your driver will pick you up from your hotel early in the morning ready for your journey. On the way, you'll stop for lunch and plenty of other times to admire the scenery and landscapes that you drive through.

Today, you'll head towards the Lama Hotel, crossing a suspension bridge over the Langtang River. The Langtang river is going to be our constant companion throughout the day. It is a fairly challenging walk along the well-defined trails, as you pass through the impressive clusters of oaks, rhododendrons and bamboos. You'll halt for lunch at Rimche at 2,455 metres and then continue your walk along the treacherous uphill trail all the way up to Lama Hotel.

Today, the trail gradually ascends along forests of oaks, maples, hemlocks and the funky rhododendrons, giving you fleeting glimpses of Langtang Lirung (7,246 metres), as you arrive at Ghora Tabela, where you'll halt for lunch. When your trek resumes, you'll pass through a Nepal Army Check Post. You'll proceed further along a grassy trail enjoying the seemingly never-ending ambience of greenery.

Kyangjin Gompa, the last human settlement in the Langtang region of Nepal offering some enticing excursions to Tsergo Ri and Yala Cheese Factory. This is perhaps the easiest, shortest and the most scenic walk of the trip. You can afford to spoil yourself sleeping till late morning as your next destination, Kyangjin Gompa, is only a three-hour walk from Langtang Village.

Kyangjin Gompa is the hub that offers some enthralling excursions to the famed destinations like Yala Cheese Factory, Tsergo Ri, Kyangjin Ri and more. So, an extra day here is not just to get acclimatised to the soaring altitude. Tsergo Ri is one of the most frequently ascended ridges in the Langtang region of Nepal. It takes about seven hours to make it to the top of the ridge and get back to your teahouse in Kyangjin Gompa.

Day 7

Trek Back to Lama Hotel

Today, you'll retrace your steps back to Lama Hotel, a 1400-metre descent with a few short exceptions.
You'll follow the same route till you reach the Landslide Lodge where you now take the upper trail to reach Thulo Syabru. The trail goes up for 400 metres and passes a Bhatti at U Kyang on the ridge before reaching the pleasant village of Thulo Syabru, decorated with elaborately carved windows.

Day 8

The trail today takes you down through the pine and juniper forests until you arrive at Bamboo, a tiny settlement poised aside the roaring Langtang River. As you commence the trek after lunch and advance further, you'll come across a trail junction. The first trail descends to Syabrubesi while the second trail winds up towards Thulo Syabru where you'll overnight.

Day 9

Thulo Syabru to Sing Gompa

You'll start the trek this morning bypassing the Gompa, school and army post and switch back to the steep hill above the village to Dursagang (2,660 metres). The trail becomes less steep now and passes through the forests of hemlock and oaks to the top of a ridge at Foprang Danda where you will have lunch.

Today, the trail climbs steeply up the ridge which creates a transition zone between rich, moist forests on the northern slopes to dry, scrub vegetation on the slope facing south. The area on the northern slope is a sanctuary for the red panda, an endangered species that Nepali people call 'Cat Bear'.

This morning, you'll start climbing further along the ridge till you see the first lakes around 4,200 metres. The trail now leaves the ridge and heads high above the Trisuli Valley. After the trail crosses a spur, the second lake in the chain (Bhairav Kund), Gosaikunda comes into view. Upon arrival, you'll settle in and get ready for dinner at your teahouse.

Back Down to Lauribinayak

Today, it is time to descend. The same way you came up to Gosaikunda, it's now time to trace your way back to Lauribinayak. You'll gradually descend to Lauribinayak. You'll find the journey down a lot easier than the journey up. When you arrive at Lauribinayak, you'll settle into your guesthouse for dinner.

Day 13

Trek Back to Dhunche

Today, you still have to descend more downhill to Dhunche. This is the final trek of your trekking tour. You'll descend to Dhunche and you'll spend the day walking through a thick forest where most part of the trail is stone and wood steps. You'll reach Dhunche in the afternoon.

Day 14

Drive Back to Kathmandu

Today, you'll drive back to Kathmandu. Your guide will have arranged a private vehicle for today's drive. It is a six-hour journey but the scenery is spectacular so there's nothing better to do than sit back and enjoy the journey. You'll stop for lunch and at various points to take photos.
