Then head to Modica in the afternoon. Like the other towns in the Val di Noto, was badly damaged in the 1693 earthquake and largely rebuilt in Sicilian Baroque style. The town was established in 1296 by Frederick II of Aragon and is now known for its chocolate shops and the opportunity to watch the "chocolatiers" at work.
