Today, your New Zealand trip will see the majestic Southern Alps, picturesque lakes and the wild beauty of the West Coast on a journey from Queenstown to Fox Glacier. Accompanied by a guide, you'll pass man-made Lake Dunstan outside Cromwell, beautiful Lake Wanaka and its neighbouring Lake Hawea. Entering Mount Aspiring National Park, follow the historic route used by Māori and journey through the Haast Pass, vast rainforests and rugged mountain tops before arriving in the Fox Glacier village.

Explore the West Coast Glacier Region

The mighty Fox is the largest and longest of the magnificent West Coast glaciers. Remarkably, it ends in a temperate rainforest, 250 metres above sea level only twelve kilometres from the sea. There are more peaks at the head of the Fox Glacier than in any other valley in New Zealand. On a leisurely guided walk to the terminal face of the glacier, you'll venture right up to the face of the ice where you'll be able to view the cave from which the Fox River emerges.

Day 3
Fox Glacier to Greymouth & Take the Tranz Alpine Train to Christchurch

This morning, you'll travel north through the small townships of Whataroa and Harihari. Pass through the township of Ross, once the centre of one of New Zealand's richest alluvial goldfields. Upon arrival in Greymouth, you'll board the TranzAlpine Scenic Train to Christchurch. Considered one of the world's great train journeys, the TranzAlpine Scenic Train takes you from Greymouth to Christchurch passing lush beech forest, deep river valleys and the spectacular peaks of the Southern Alps.
