Harrena Forest in Bale National Park

To the south of the Park lies a 1,200-metre escarpment, below is one of the largest and most extensive forests remaining in Ethiopia, the Harenna Forest. The slope of the southern escarpment falls rapidly from 3,200 to around 2,000 metres, producing a rapid and spectacular change in landscape, habitat and species. The Harenna Forest is known for its native plants, mammals, amphibians and birds, including many endemic species.
