Day 2

From the City to the Villages

From the City to the Villages

After breakfast, you will drive outside Kigali for about one hour to visit Mayange village, part of the Millennium Villages, an international project dedicated to lifting communities out of poverty, providing technology in farming, health and education. You will stop at Nyamata church where nearly 5,000 people were killed in 1994 while seeking refuge. Later, you'll go to Reconciliation Village where both perpetrators and victims of the 1994 genocide live side-by-side.

Day 3

Today, after breakfast, you'll embark on a 2.5-hour scenic transfer to the northern part of Rwanda, which is the gateway to the great mountain gorillas. Ibyiwacu Cultural Village is where dance is organised and you can experience the traditional lifestyle of the Rwandan pre-colonial period. The village has a variety of cultural experiences and is probably the best way to get to know the local people, their culture and their ways of living.

Day 4

Mountain Gorilla Trek & Conservation Project

Mountain Gorilla Trek & Conservation Project

After an early breakfast, you will be transferred to the park for check-in. Here, you will be told about the trek, gorilla behaviour and divided into groups. The trek can take two to six hours depending on the movements of the animals. The rangers will lead you deep into the forest, taking you up and down the rugged terrain until you finally meet these harmonious creatures. You'll trek back through the forest for lunch and transfer to the Karisoke Research Centre for an educational visit.

Day 5

Golden Monkey Trek & Market Tour

You'll leave for the trek at 7am. Golden Monkeys are very rare and nowhere in Africa is there larger numbers than in Rwanda. The trek to the golden monkey is easier than yesterday. These unique, playful creatures will entertain for a good hour. You'll return to your lodge to freshen up and have lunch. Around 2pm, your driver-guide will take you to the local market, where you will see a lot of food displayed and African fabrics; they make for great souvenirs!

Today you will have your breakfast at leisure as you will be checking out by 10 am for your scenic transfer to Kigali, reaching the city just in time for lunch at the historical Hotel des Mille Collins, commonly known as Hotel Rwanda. Later on, you'll transfer to Kigali international airport for your flight back home.
