Trip Overview

This 7-day trip covers most of the highlights in the north of Vietnam with interesting activities like trekking, kayaking and cooking.

Start your trip in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, known for its centuries-old architecture and rich culture with Chinese and French influences. Famous for its narrow streets in the Old Quarter, many little temples and the Đồng Xuân Market.

Then, head to the popular trekking base of Sapa to tour the surrounding terraced rice fields and visits to colourful Hill tribes, such as the Hmong, Tay and Dao. You'll finish your trip with a cruise on Halong Bay, known for its emerald waters and hundreds of towering limestone islands.

Day 1

Our guide and driver will pick you up at the airport and transfer you to your hotel to check in. The city tour starts with the Ho Chi Minh Complex, containing the mausoleum of the nation's founder Ho Chi Minh, the Presidential Palace and Ho Chi Minh's stilt-house. Then to the One Pillar Pagoda; the Temple of Literature, dedicated to one of the world's most famous scholars, Confucius and the Museum of Ethnology. Finish the day with the Water Puppet Show.

Day 2

Today, you will have a full day in the northern countryside. First go to Tam Coc, which means “3 caves,” and explore the karst formations and caves by boat. After lunch, go to Mua Cave. Lying at the foot of Mua mountain, hike to the cave, formed by a long stone staircase, which zigzags through the karst; with 500 steps ascending very steeply, you'll go to a simple altar to Quan Am (the Goddess of Mercy). Return to Hanoi early afternoon, before taking the night train to Sapa.

Arrive early morning in Sapa for breakfast. The first trek on your Sapa tour is to Cat Cat Village, home to the H’Mong hill tribe with their distinctive customs and practices. As you continue on the trail, you will see a number of mills with elaborate bamboo waterwheels. After lunch, trek to the quiet and secluded Lao Cai Village, inhabited by 100 Black H'Mong families, surrounded by rice and corn terraces. For dinner, go to the night market and try baked or grilled beef, fish, and vegetables.

This is an ideal attraction for exploring the pristine and unique cultural identity of the northwest ethnic people of Vietnam. In the afternoon, you'll head to the station to return to Hanoi by night train.

Halong Bay

After breakfast, the driver and guide will come to pick you up for your transfer to Halong Bay. The drive takes about 3 hours and 30 minutes, traversing through scenic rice fields. You'll check onto the cruise around noon, just in time for lunch. The afternoon is free for you to join some activities such as visiting a cave, cooking or kayaking.

Morning on Halong and Back to Hanoi

Start your day with Tai Chi exercises or just watch the rising sun on this peaceful morning. After breakfast, take the kayak around the Luon Cave and explore all of the inlets before returning to the boat mid-morning. Freshen up and check out of your cabin. Watch the fruit carving demonstration and participate in the cooking class before enjoying a traditional Vietnamese lunch. Then we will transfer you back to Hanoi.
