Trip Overview

This trip will take you from the Rhine River in Cologne to the Isar River in Munich, from North Rhine Westfalia to Bavaria, visiting fascinating cities en route, including Frankfurt, the financial centre of Germany and the charming area of Lake Constance bordered by three countries.

Finally, you will visit the highlights of Munich, the capital of Bavaria. The Southernmost German region will surprise you with new experiences while travelling in Bavaria. You will gain many cultural backgrounds by exploring the charming Bavarian countryside, Alpine scenery, towns and villages.

There is a treasure for you to discover between Franconia and the Alps. Bavaria offers a rich heritage of customs and beliefs reflected by many local religious and secular festivals. These cultural traditions date back to medieval times, the renaissance, e. g. Albrecht Dürer, royal personalities such as Sissi, King Ludwig II. and the artists' circle of Blauer Reiter.

You will enjoy its international atmosphere and the many genuine Bavarian locations and restaurants in town. Your last stop is in Salzburg, travelling across Germany to Austria where you will admire the charming facets of Mozart city.

Welcome to Germany! The first stop on your Germany to Austria tour. Upon arrival in Düsseldorf, you will pick up your rental car and continue to Cologne. You will explore the city including a visit to the cathedral, an impressive gothic church monument, the city`s landmark. Depending on the time, you can optionally visit the chocolate museum. In the early evening, you will continue to Boppard, a village in one of the major wine-growing areas of Germany.

This morning, you will visit Ehrenburg Castle dating back to the 12thcentury. After that, you will depart for a one-hour-river cruise on the Rhine to St. Goar. Optionally, you can take part in a wine tasting experience. Train back to Boppard. You will arrive back in Frankfurt in the early evening.

Spend the morning in Frankfurt, the most international city in Germany, the largest financial centre on the continent, the historical city of coronations, the city of Goethe and the Frankfurt School of philosophy. Of historical importance is St. Paul`s (Paulskirche), a church with great political symbolism in Germany. After visiting Frankfurt, you will continue your journey to Stuttgart. The city is home to two brands of Germany's car industry, Porsche and Mercedes. Here we recommend you to visit the Mercedes Benz Museum putting on display the company`s history of 130 years.

Today, you will reach Chiemsee. Weather conditions allowing, you will catch fine views of the marvellous Alpine scenery. Chiemsee is the largest lake in Bavaria and by the locals called the “Bavarian Sea”. Near You will go on a leisurely hike to an Alpinecottage. In the afternoon, you will continue to Berchtesgaden. Monks in early medieval times founded this small Alpine town that became famous for its salt mines. After that, you will take a boat tour of Königssee, one of the “beauties” among the many Bavarian lakes aboard an electric-powered boat -a special experience as no noise interferes with the still mountain scenery around the lake shores.

Visit Salzburg - Home of Mozart

After breakfast, you will drive to Salzburg in neighbouring Austria, the final destination on your Germany to Austria trip. The magnificent Baroque city is world-famous for its great musical tradition. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart spent his childhood and youth there. You will go on a walking tour that takes you through Getreidegasse, where Mozart was born in 1756. Allow some time for shopping or a lunch break at one of the coffee houses. You will drive back to Munich in the late afternoon (rental car drop-off must be Munich).
