Maria Island is a spectacular island national park situated just off the east coast of Tasmania. Its tranquillity combined with its natural beauty, rare wildlife and fascinating history makes it a unique and special place. On this award-winning, four-day gentle Maria Island walk, you’ll experience all of it as well as the wonderful city of Hobart.

Maria Island’s pristine untouched beaches, the crystal clear waters of the surrounding Marine Reserve and scenery like the magnificent Mt Maria and Bishop and Clerk peaks will take your breath away. You’ll wander through forests of magnificent blue and white gums, some of them over 400 years old and unique to Maria Island.

At the Fossils Cliffs, you’ll see shellfish fossil beds unlike any other in the world. Maria Island is also famous for its abundance of wildlife being home to rare and endangered species like the Swift Parrot and Cape Barron Goose and of course, the Tasmanian Devil.

Upon arrival, you'll be met by your driver and transferred from HBA Airport to the hotel in a private Sedan. After checking into your hotel, you'll have the rest of the afternoon free to spend as you wish. Today, you'll embark on a luxurious day of wine and art at Mona beginning on the super-flash, high-speed ferry, complete with onboard bars and sheep to sit on. Once you land at Mona, you'll begin your self-guided tour of the subterranean galleries. Then, Moorilla’s Wine Ambassador will take you through an intimate vineyard tour where you’ll taste wines and delve into the backstory of Moorilla. Your driver will collect you in Hobart and take you to the city base where you’ll meet the guides and be given a briefing. Then, the adventure begins exploring the magnificence of Maria island, staying in the exclusive wilderness camps and enjoying candlelit gourmet dinners at night under the stars. Today, you'll head to the historic coastal town of Triabunna and enjoy lunch overlooking the crystal azure waters of Shoal Bay before taking a walk to the tranquil Casuarina Beach Camp.

Today, you'll walk from Reidle Bay across the rare land formation of the isthmus to Shoal Bay to stroll five fabulous beaches. As you walk, your knowledgeable guides will share fascinating stories of human occupation on the island. You'll explore the convict cells at Point Lesueur and visit an ochre pit at Bloodstone Point. In the evening, you'll watch the sunset over the stunning Four Mile Beach, then put your feet up at White Gums Camp, where you'll sip wine on the deck and anticipate dinner.

Today, you'll take the gentle inland track to Hopgrounds Beach and the Painted Cliffs or continue to the 711-metre summit of Mt. Maria for breathtaking 360 views. Alternatively, you can save the mountain climb for Bishop and Clerk, with its fantastic sea and coastline vistas. Either way, you'll finish the day with a sumptuous banquet and accommodation in the historic colonial home once occupied by Italian entrepreneur, Diego Bernacchi.

Today will be a chance to relax and explore the convict settlement and industrial ruins of Darlington, a UNESCO World Heritage site. You'll continue onto the dramatic sea cliffs of Fossil Bay and then head down to the remarkable fossils at Fossil Cliffs. Then, you'll enjoy a champagne lunch overlooking the stunning Freycinet peninsula. You'll return to Hobart around 6 pm after walking four kilometres.
