Today we leave Phnom Penh at 8:30 am and head north until we arrive in Battambang. The city is known for its beautiful French colonial architecture, fertile fields and many jewels found in the region. There are some art galleries and cafes, which can be discovered on a leisurely walk. We will take a half-hour ride on the so-called bamboo train, which was once used for local traffic and the transport of heavy goods.

Battambang is home to beautiful colonial architecture and Khmer temples. You will visit Wat Aik Phnom Pagoda, drive past rice fields and orchards and visit friendly locals in villages to see how rice paper, fish paste, and sticky rice are produced. Experience the mystical aura of Wat Banan, visit a small local vineyard, and finish the day at Wat Sampov with its holy caves, shrines and the Khmer Rouge memorial in the "Killing Cave". At sunset, you'll witness thousands of bats leaving the cave!

Day 4

Angkor Tour by Remork (Tuk Tuk)

Start the tour at Angkor Thom, the last capital of the Khmer Empire. You enter the city through the impressive south gate which has four gigantic faces and elephants are chiselled in. Drive to the Bayon Temple, in the middle of Angkor and Tah Prohm overgrown by huge tree roots. You'll visit some smaller temples too. Finally, explore Angkor Wat, said to represent the peaks of Mount Meru, the home of the gods. Your day ends with the sunset over Angkor Wat from the hill of Phnom Bakheng.

Day 5

Start the day early and leave the city behind. Then we will cycle along the small trails, passing small villages and rice fields to a small fish market where you can see daily market life. Here we refresh ourselves with cool drinks and then continue to Kampong Khleang. Board a boat to visit the floating village. See the local school, the Vietnamese part of the village and learn about life. Return to Siem Reap at about 5 pm.

Rise early for the overland trip to Kratie, home of the rare Irrawaddy freshwater dolphins. Your journey will take most of the day. When you arrive in Kratie, take a small ferry to Koh Trong Island in the middle of the Mekong River opposite the city. Rest for the remainder of the day, ready for your exploration of the island tomorrow.

This morning take a small bicycle tour on the island of Koh Trong. Passing rice fields, fruit and vegetable plantations and villages with friendly locals. Stop at the small houses, taste fresh fruits and have a chat with the help of your guide. At the northern tip of the island is a Khmer pagoda, at the southern tip a Vietnamese pagoda. In the evening you get on a bike again and watch the sunset near the Khmer Pagoda.
