The island was formed by a series of submarine lava containing layers of sediment that were uplifted by tectonic activity. The island is characterised by its arid vegetation zone. Next, you will travel to Bartolome Island, home of the famous Pinnacle Rock and an extinct volcano with a variety of red, orange, black and even green volcanic formations.

Egas Port is home to the curious Galapagos hawks and quick-footed Galapagos lava lizards. The trail leads to a coastline with gorgeous tide pools and grottos full of fauna. Here, you will find the Galapagos fur sea lions bathe in the sun. Espumilla Beach is a popular place for marine iguanas and Sally Lightfoot crabs. Buccaneer Cove is a testament to the fact that Santiago Island was once a refuge for pirates who would anchor to make repairs and stock up on tortoise meat among other things.

Isabela Island: Tagus Cove & Fernandina Island's Espinosa Point

Tagus Cove has been frequented by ships since the 1800s using the area as an anchorage site. Afterwards, you will visit Fernandina Island, which is the youngest of all the Galapagos islands. Located over the hot spot that created all of the Galapagos, it is common to see eruptions or flumes coming out of its volcano. This has created an amazing combination of wildlife which includes the Galapagos Flightless cormorants, the biggest colony of marine iguanas in the Galapagos, sea lions and hawks.
