Trip Overview

Discover the historic highlights of three important cities and the wonderful highlights of Egypt over nine glorious days. Beginning in Cairo, this Egypt trip will take you to Alexandria, Aswan, Luxor and finally the beach resort of Hurghada, before heading back to Cairo.

In Cairo, you'll be in awe of the bustling, vibrancy of this city with the sounds, sights and smells which ooze from its markets and lively streets. Here, you'll marvel at the last remaining wonder of the ancient world standing for nearly 4,000 years, the extraordinary Giza Pyramids as well as the ancient sites of Dahshur and Saqqara.

The entire time, you'll be accompanied by an Egyptologist guide to ensure you get the best introduction into Egypt and its ancient history possible. Moving on, you'll visit the great ancient city of Alexandria on the coast, spending the day exploring the impressive Library of Alexandria and Qaitbay Citadel before catching your sleeper train to Aswan.

The next few days will see you explore the wonderful cities of Aswan and Luxor and their abundance of intriguing ancient sites which will enable you to learn more about Egypt's history. Finally, you'll spend your penultimate night on the Red Sea coast in the resort town of Hurghada before heading back to Cairo.

Welcome to Cairo, the mother of the world and your gateway to sun and fun. Upon arrival at Cairo airport, you will be met by your guide and assisted with visa formalities and luggage collection, then you'll transfer to your hotel. Your cosy hotel is located in the green area of Cairo called Maadi, where you can easily explore. The rest of the day is free for you to relax or explore Cairo at your leisure; your guide will provide recommendations.

Your Egypt trip begins with exploring the last remaining wonder of the ancient world; standing for nearly 4000 years, the extraordinary Giza Pyramids. An Egyptologist tour guide will be accompanying you on this and all of your other sightseeing tours. You'll then stop by a nearby restaurant to enjoy your lunch. Following on from the pyramids, you'll then head back to Cairo and to the Citadel, one of the world's greatest monuments to medieval warfare.

This morning, you'll leave Cairo behind and head to the coast of the Mediterranean Sea to visit Alexandria, the ancient capital and the greatest city of Ancient Egypt. You'll visit the Library of Alexandria and Qaitbay Citadel, and spend the day enjoying the sea breeze. The library is quite an impressive place to visit, home to over eight million books spread over a staggering 11 cascading levels. Later on, our driver will take you to the train station for your overnight sleeper train to Aswan.

After breakfast on board, you'll arrive in Aswan. You'll be transferred to a traditional Nubian guest house along the Nile, where you will have time to enjoy the Nubian culture and visit the Unfinished Obelisk. Found in a granite quarry in southern Aswan, the Unfinished Obelisk –if finished– would have been the largest piece of stone that humans had ever built.

Aswan to Luxor

After being fascinated by the Temple of Horus at Edfu, you'll drive all the way to Luxor stopping to stretch your legs occasionally. After checking into Nile Valley Hotel, you'll head out to visit the age-old Temples of Karnak on the Nile's east bank. You'll admire its columns, courts and statues and discover how it was built 3,000 years ago while being accompanied with your own Egyptologist guide. The evening will be free for you to relax.

Day 6

This morning, you'll be up early to visit the Valley of the Kings, this divine place was once called the Great Necropolis of Millions of Years of Pharaoh, or the Place of Truth, and it has 63 magnificent royal tombs. It is the burial site of almost all of the pharaohs from the 18th, 19th, and 20th dynasties of Egypt which spanned 1539–1075 BCE. After you'll explore the divine Temple of Hatshepsut and then, in the evening your tour guide will take you to visit Luxor Temple.

Temple of Dendera

The city of Dendera is located on the west bank of the Nile, about 60 kilometres to the north of Luxor, in the 6th Nome of Upper Egypt. The Dendera Temple Complex is situated around 2.5 kilometres to the southeast of this city. Dendera is said to mark an old holy place, even by the standards of the ancient Egyptians. After exploring the complex, you'll drive to spend the night at Hurghada along the Red Sea coast.

After spending a relaxing time at your cosy resort located in the city centre of Hurghada, it will be time to head back to Cairo. Make sure you've made the most of being on the beach and by the pool before you leave. Then, you will drive back to Cairo; the journey will take around five hours without stops. After checking into your hotel in Cairo, you'll have the evening free to spend as you wish.
