After a hearty breakfast depart to Anuradhapura, the ancient city which was built around a cutting from the 'Tree of Enlightenment', the Buddha's fig tree, brought to the area in the 3rd century BC. Visit the ancient Buddhist ruins and discover an enigmatic city that is more than 1500 years old.

Visit the Sigiriya Rock Fortress in the morning, it is also known as Lion Rock due to the shape of the original rock formation - the only remaining features are of a pair of huge clawed feet. Stop off at the Sigiriya for an authentic village tour, if time permits. Finally, visit the Dambulla Cave Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

This morning you will make your way to the cultural triangle in the centre of the island where you'll find the ancient city of Polonnaruwa with its large number of ancient structures – palaces, temples, tombs and statues. Then, take a jeep safari around Minneriya National Park where you'll see wild elephants, which are often present in huge numbers, and wading birds.

You will be transferred to Kandy after breakfast. On the way, stop for a guided educational tour around the spice garden at Iswara Ayurvedic Village where you will be introduced to the wonderful world of spices and herbs. Finish your day in the heart of Kandy City next to Kandy Lake, which is popular for strolling around. Kandy is famed for sacred Buddhist sites, including the Temple of the Tooth Shrine.

Today you'll depart for the Peradeniya Botanical Garden in the morning. It’s also worthwhile to wander around Kandy City, try some traditional food from a local restaurant and relax by the lake while soaking up the relaxing atmosphere. In the evening you will enjoy a traditional cultural dance show before returning back to the hotel.

Today, you proceed to the tea country where you will be treated to fantastic views out over the tea plantations, you may even see pickers working the harvest. In the afternoon, visit the Ramboda Waterfall viewpoint - the cascading water is a sight to behold. You can take a walk around Lake Gregory which is surrounded by lush scenery for a fresh mountain breeze. Finish the day by enjoying an evening coffee with fantastic views.

It's an early start to the day as you drive to Horton Plain’s National Park for a trek through to World’s End. This 8-kilometre guided walk passes through some beautiful scenery and on a clear day, you might be able to see Adam’s Peak. Visit New Zealand and Ambewala Farms on the way and then enjoy a Little England City Tour in the afternoon before making your way to the hotel in Nuwara Eliya.

Experience the panoramic view from the highest mountain in Sri Lanka, Piduruthalagala Mountain. Enjoy a scenic train ride from Nuwara Eliya to Ella, which is a small and quaint mountain village and then climb Ravana Ella Caves, part of a network of caves said to be connected to the Ravana Ella Waterfall, to discover unseen history. Walk to the top of Small Adam's Peak to see the view and beautiful sunset that never ceases to amaze visitors.

Continue your Sri Lanka travel itinerary today by taking the road to the south of the country, passing through the wide Ravana falls where you can see water gushing down a concave rock. Yala combines a strict nature reserve with a national park and is home to 44 varieties of mammal and 215 bird species. It contains the world’s largest concentration of leopards, as well as Asian elephants, sloth bears, sambas, jackals, spotted deer and crocodiles.

Drive to Hummanaya Blow Hole in the morning and then head to Galle to visit Galle Dutch Fort which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Bay of Galle on the southwest coast. Continuing further south you reach Beruwala with its white serene sandy beach. Relax at the hotel swimming pool or enjoy some beach time in the afternoon.

Enjoy an optional river cruise at Madhu Ganga, here you will see beautiful mangrove islands teeming with wildlife and nature. You could also visit a turtle hatchery and learn how these beautiful creatures are getting a helping hand with a hatchery programme. The imposing Colombo National Museum, dedicated to Sri Lankan history, borders sprawling Viharamahadevi Park and its giant Buddha. Take a walk in Galle Face Green in the evening.
